Notes & editor
Notes are the heart of NotesXD. Write rich text, organize notes in folders, and everything is stored locally on your Mac.
Creating & organizing notes
- Create a note from the note list, or ask the AI chat to create one for you.
- Group notes into folders in the sidebar to keep projects together.
- Notes auto-save as you type — there is no manual save button.
- The note list shows a preview; row height adapts to the title and snippet.
The rich-text editor
The editor supports formatted text, headings, lists and inline task checkboxes. You can maximize the editor for a focused, full-window writing experience.
- Headings, bold, lists and other rich-text formatting.
- Inline tasks — type a checkbox item and add optional priority and due date.
- Drag and drop files directly into a note to attach them.
- An "Edited X minutes ago" status shows when the note last changed.
Maximized view
When a note is maximized, the toolbar groups the upgrade, new transcription and new note buttons on a top row, with the standard note actions below. The edit status appears to the left of the minimize button.
Renaming & deleting
Rename notes and folders directly in the sidebar. You can also ask the AI to rename a folder or delete a note — deletions always show an on-screen confirmation before anything is removed.
Where notes are stored
All notes live in a local database on your Mac. They are never uploaded to a server. See Privacy & security for details on what the AI features send and what stays local.
